Flying solo in his Piper Cub Special seaplane,Erickson sets off from his home in Minnesota,heads north to Churchill on Hudson Bay,and then to Chantrey Inlet on the Arctic Sea before wandering west through the Northwest Territories to Alaska.Crossing the mountainous Yukon,he searches out Coppermine,and then turns toward Yellowknife before heading home through Saskatchewan and Manitoba.Landing on unexplored lakes and rivers to set up camp,the author eats off the land, struggles with bad weather,dodges forest fires and take the reader to a land of stunning landscapes where he mingles with polar bears,killer whales,musk oxen and caribou.George Erickson has logged more than a thousand hours on his flights through the North country.This is his first book.
